Labour Day weekend and the end of summer is always a harbinger that the fall high school sports season is about to kick off. Soccer, softball, baseball, golf, football, cross country and field hockey teams around the province have been quietly holding tryouts in preparation for the season.

School Sport NB (SSNB), the high school sports governing body in the province, has set Tuesday, September 2 as the first official day that teams can begin playing games.

Soccer will be featured on our local fields during September and October. The regional soccer playoffs will be on Saturday, October 25th with the championship round going the following weekend on November 1.

Tryouts notices for soccer teams flooded social media last week as local soccer teams began to take shape for the year.

Campobello, Harvey, McAdam and Sir James Dunn Academy (St. Andrews) will be featured in the “A” division for schools with small population. Fundy Middle and High School and St. Stephen will play in the “AA” division for mid-sized NB schools.

Our local soccer teams will slot into the following leagues (pending any late changes with SSNB):

UPCOMING GAMES THIS WEEK: The official schedules have not been posted on SSNB site as of yet, but we did snag a couple exhibition game times from local social media. SJDA boys, a “A” school, will open their exhibition season testing themselves in back to back matches against our two local “AA” squads on September 5.
